About MatchBot

MatchBot is a Discord bot built using TypeScript and Discord.js, designed to bring the dating app experience to Discord servers. It's fully dockerized for easy deployment and scaling.

The bot offers a variety of features including general member commands, event commands for server management, and its core matchmaking functionality. Whether you're running a social community or a themed server, MatchBot helps connect users in meaningful ways.

Member Commands

  • /set_my_age lets any server member fill in a missing birthday and assigns their age role. It requires a valid birth date and an age of at least 18, and does not grant verification. Staff birthday corrections and daily age-role updates remain in ModBot.
  • /version shows the running MatchBot version in a private reply.
  • /match manages your public dating profile and finds compatible members.
  • /match info saves your dating profile and preferences. Select up to four optional dealbreaker roles; a match must have every selected role. Role selections are saved separately for each server, while your profile text and birthday are shared. Omit all roles when saving to clear this server's dealbreakers. The optional intro field adds a link to your introduction; omit it when saving to clear the link. Introduction posts are never attached automatically.
  • /match read retrieves a member profile.
  • /match delete clears your saved dating profile, preferences, dealbreakers, and dating availability. Replies privately. Use /match info to create a new profile afterward.
  • /match search searches profiles using your saved age and gender preferences and optional filters.
  • /match make privately shows a random member in this server who is looking to date and matches your saved age and gender preferences and all dealbreaker roles.
  • /match interest user:<member> privately records interest in another person across all servers. If you both select each other, you each get a match DM suggesting you arrange a time for a server voice chat. You can select multiple people, and no dating profile is required. Repeating the command retries missing DMs without resending successful notifications.
  • /get_intro finds a member’s introduction post separately from their dating profile.

Matchmaking

  • /search searches profiles by matching criteria.
  • /stats count and /stats ratio report server statistics.

Know Me Well

/kmw requires Manage Channels and creates a Know Me Well category with one voice room. Running it again reuses the category. Existing game categories upgrade to Know Me Well automatically. Each room's built-in text chat lets connected players chat alongside the rules and game controls. Joining grants chat access, and leaving removes it. Short instructions appear above the embed; the embed shows only the drawn card. Players can stay at any level and move on only if both want to continue. Speed Dating is a shorter game for shorter meetings. You don't have to finish every card in a level; each level takes the conversation deeper. Choose Next Level when you're both ready. Rooms are named open while they have space and private at two people. Full rooms deny new joins and show Discord’s lock indicator to other members; only connected players can use their game controls. They reopen when someone leaves. A new empty room appears when needed; rooms are deleted when their last person leaves, keeping one empty room available. Start Game becomes Quit Game while playing. Draw Card replaces the embed with a random unused card. Next Level advances through the selected pack’s levels without drawing. Choose Standard, Couples, Speed Dating, Christian Intention, or a Christian Intention / Couple or Standard combo from the pack dropdown below the buttons. Descriptions help you choose: Standard suits new connections or beginning couples, and its combo adds faith questions; Couples and its combo suit people comfortable discussing love and their relationship. Combos merge matching levels. The Standard combo excludes couples-only faith cards. Christian Intention includes 116 cards across Perception, Connection, and Reflection, with chat-friendly questions and simultaneous DM reveals for wildcards. Switching packs returns to Level 1 without drawing and keeps this game's card history. Games in occupied rooms survive bot restarts.

  • /speed_dating start starts a speed dating session.
  • /speed_dating shuffle shuffles participants into pairings.
  • /speed_dating regroup moves participants into a new round.
  • /speed_dating add_member and /speed_dating remove_member manage participants.
  • /speed_dating see_members reviews the current roster.

Panels And Setup

  • /create_looking_to_date_panel creates the looking-to-date role panel.
  • /create_my_profile_panel creates the self-service profile panel.
  • /create_server_booster_panel creates booster role controls.
  • /seed_age_chats, /seed_location_chats, and /seed_location_forums seed server structures.

Seasonal Features

  • /ask_opposite_sex posts questions for the opposite sex.
  • /loveletter supports anonymous seasonal messages.
